Explore Patundas Meadows

You may have explored countless locations, but none compare to the astonishing place I’m about to introduce. It’s not just another spot; it’s a paradise boasting stunning beauty and a serene atmosphere. One look won’t reveal the magnificence hidden among the mountains. Its magic transcends words and even photos; it’s a beauty that defies description. Let me introduce you to the breathtaking Patundas Meadow.

Situated in Ghulkin, a small village in the upper Hunza region of Pakistan’s Gilgit Baltistan, the Patundas meadow isn’t just a tourist spot; it’s the culmination of a journey through several other scenic locations. Ideal for trekking enthusiasts, it’s considered the top trekking destination in Hunza Valley. Visitors from around the world flock here from June to September, though reaching it can be challenging due to the harsh weather.

The summer pasture sits at an elevation of 4200 meters and offers a panoramic view of eighteen peaks, including Passu Peak, Batura Peak, Shisper Peak, Rakaposhi, and more. While it’s possible to reach it in a day, most visitors take three days due to the difficulty of the journey, which includes Passu Ghar, Luzdur, and finally, Patundas Meadow.

Your journey starts at the breathtaking Borith Lake, where you can soak in the views before beginning your trek. Afsang Trek, meaning “the path of yaks” in the native Wakhi language, leads you to a stunning white glacier, a short but captivating trekking spot popular in the area.

Passu Ghar serves as the first stage and campsite of your journey. With its picturesque conifer trees and a small house built by locals, it’s a perfect place to rest and enjoy the scenery. From there, you’ll trek to Luzdur, a stunning pasture at an altitude of 3400 meters, crossing the White Glacier with the help of guides due to its changing and challenging terrain.

Finally, you’ll arrive at Patundas Meadow after two days of trekking. Subdivided into Ghanzsar, Gozdun, and Algha, each stage offers unique sights and experiences. Algha, the uppermost area, offers a spectacular view of Hunza Valley and its surrounding peaks. Here, you can immerse yourself in the beauty of nature, with its misty landscapes, cool breezes, and diverse flora and fauna.

Prepare to be awed by this natural wonder and the blessings of nature. Watching the sunrise from such a high altitude is an experience that will stay with you forever.
