Kargah Buddha Rock is a famous archaeological site, that is located on the outskirts of Gilgit city. It is a carving image of a standing Buddha. The height of this Buddha is 50ft. This carving was completed in the 7th century. The Buddha figure is depicted wearing a monastic robe, with one hand raised in the gesture of blessing and the other hand holding a bowl.

Introduction to Kargah Buddha Rock:

The Kargah Buddha is a significant historical and cultural site. It attracts visitors from all over the world. The site is surrounded by beautiful natural scenery, with the clean and clear Kargah River flowing nearby and the majestic mountains in the background. Visitors can hike up to the site from the Kargah Bridge, which offers stunning views of the valley and the surrounding landscape. 

Kargah Buddha is located about 10 kilometers outside of Gilgit city, the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan. The site is situated on the bank of the Kargah Nullah (stream) and is surrounded by beautiful mountains. The Buddha figure is carved out of a large granite rock face and is believed to date back to the 7th century when Buddhism was the dominant religion in the region.

Its carving is an impressive sight to behold. The statue is 14 meters high and is carved out of the natural rock face of a mountain. The Buddha figure is depicted in a sitting position, with his right hand raised in the abhaya mudra (fear not) gesture, and his left hand resting on his lap. The Buddha’s robe is depicted in intricate detail, and the carving as a whole is a testament to the skill of the ancient craftsmen who created it.

Itinerary

When you will reach Chilas city you can check in to your hotel and you will take some rest after a long journey. After that, you will visit the Chilas Fort  and enjoy the local cuisine.

You are going to visit Kargah Buddha which is located 6km away from Gilgit city.  The Kargah Buddha is a rock-carved Buddha that was created during the time of the Gandhara civilization in the 7th century CE. This statue is located on a cliff. You can spend a good time here enjoying the beautiful views of the surrounding high mountains and the beautiful river. Then you can visit Gilgit fort which is on a hill . This Fort was built in the 8th century and here you can learn a lot about the history and culture of the region.

You are going to spend 3rd day exploring the Nagar Valley and Hunza Valley. 

You can visit Upper Hunza Valley on day 4 which is 120 km away from Gilgit city. Hunza Valley is known for its beautiful scenery and it is home to several beautiful historical sites and beautiful villages. Here you can also visit Alit fort and Baltit Fort which is a beautiful historical site located in Hunza Valley

On the 5th day, you can depart from Gilgit and return to Naran.

From Naran you will travel through the scenic Kaghan Valley down to Balakot, Manshera and back to Islamabad/Peshawar/Lahore.
